Workshop Equips Boys & Girls Clubs Youth With Skills For the Future

By Mandy Hale

Sixty 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders at the Laura Cassler Boys & Girls Club in Knoxville recently participated in a listen and learn session with two Pellissippi State Community College students from the Media Technologies Department representing graphic design and video production.

Boys & Girls Club members viewed commercials created by the student speaker from PSCC and were also able to see the printed elements created by the graphic design student speaker as part of a campaign for the City of Knoxville’s Chamber of Commerce.

Connected Tennessee’s Alyson Sumerford was in attendance at the event and was delighted to see how eagerly the kids responded to the training opportunity.

“This was a very hands-on presentation that allowed the Boys & Girls Club youth to learn about graphic design and video production in real-time,” remarked Alyson. “What an exciting opportunity for the youth to be able to learn from these college students in a fun, interactive environment. We want to thank Pellissippi State for sharing their knowledge and skills with these very deserving youth.”
