Impact of High-Speed Internet on Higher Education

Adults at computerHigh-speed Internet is a staple in higher education. But Internet access is more than computer labs and research, and colleges, universities, and community colleges in Tennessee continue to find new applications for the Internet in everyday activities. Websites are an important source of information about the sponsoring institution, from providing news and information concerning campus activities to offering online registration. Colleges and universities in Tennessee often use school websites to attract prospective students, remain connected to alumni, and allow for online donations. The Internet also allows students in Tennessee to obtain their degree without ever having visited a college campus. All of the state's Board of Regents colleges and universities are working together in a program that allows students to earn college degrees entirely online.  Students may choose the college or university that will award their degrees, register online and receive their degrees from the comfort of their own home; allowing them to have the flexibility to maintain jobs and raise a family.
